Enso Update and Price Drop

Our Products

Thanks to everyone who downloaded Enso and tried it out, and a special thanks to those who have already bought Enso. In the last week, we’ve gotten an enormous amount of feedback, and we’re working as hard as we can to respond to all the requests, complaints, compliments, and feature requests. Happily, we’ve fixed the first round of bugs. And, already on its way, is the next round of changes: adding the oft-requested features (like the ability to change Enso’s entry key and whether Enso is “sticky” or not).

In this update we’ve made two important changes.

First, we’ve heard a lot of feedback that Enso was just too expensive. We hear you. We are dropping the price of both Enso Launcher and Enso Words today. They are now $19.95 each. What’s more, we’ve added a discount for buying both products: people who purchase a second product will be charged $14.95. Personally, we hate it when we go buy a new product and then its price drops the next day and we can’t get that money back. So, we will be refunding the full difference to those who already purchased the software. Our goal is to make usable software that is also affordable.

Second, for those of you who have downloaded and installed Enso Launcher or Enso Words (or both), we issued an update to the software earlier this week. We hope that most of you didn’t even notice it go by. In that update, we fixed a number of bugs, most of which only occurred on a small number of computers. Among the things we fixed were:

* Enso now plays nice with Opera. Enso should no longer crash when Opera is running.
* Enso should now install and run in a number of situations where it used to crash on startup. In particular, malformed or nonstandard proxy information no longer crashes Enso, and neither does being installed on someplace other than the C: drive.
* Enso should have fewer difficulties with “upper case” and other text commands crashing Enso; this was a rare bug, and should now be even rarer (if not extinct).

To make sure you got the update, you can issue the “update” command, and click on “Just update Enso”. If you get a message saying “No updates are available”, then you’ve already gotten the update. If you got an error saying “Could not contact the update server”, then please issue the “report bug” command to let us know about the problem. We’ll do everything we can to make sure you can get the update.

We’re continuing to fix bugs and implement new features; watch in the coming weeks for further updates.

Please note: Since January 15, 2008, all Enso products have been free. All information in the above post about prices, purchasing, and updates is, therefoure, out-of-date. To get the latest version of Enso, free of charge, see the main Enso page.

When can we add our own commands? I’ll settle for aliasing. :]

Will we be able to access, and explore the command list from within the Enso-quasimode?

The commands to manipulate graphics from the demo look amazing, can’t wait for those!!!!
I noticed it was for Fireworks? Will the commands work for for the very popular Photoshop, Illustrator, AfterEffects, and Indesign? The undo command is different in Photoshop, than the others, throws me off all the time. Cheeky Adobe monkeys.

Cheers.

I imagine you guys will have a lot of support from the design community when Enso works well with the mouse (ie; mouse gestures, in addition to keyboard gestures) since we use the mouse more than the keyboard, or more specifically one hand on the keyboard, one on the mouse. We among many other professionals, use the computer every day for many hours, and are shortcut keyboard masters, and often jump for joy when we discover a new shortcut command in an application.

Good move, on the price drop. I am definitely going to buy it now. :)

Hi Have you planned a version for Mac and Linux ?

Iused the Enso launcher for 15 minutes and liked it a lot. But as a responsable software developer I do all my development with a least privelege account i.e. I am not logged in as an administrator and can therefore not use Enso laucnher.
Is there a timeframe for a version that does not require admin privileges ?

Great news. Also nice to see a company that listens and reacts so fast to the community.

Wow, I’m happy to see there’s a healthy demand for new features! But as we are a small company, we can’t do everything at once. Some of your questions are already answered on the FAQ, which you can get to via the “support” link at the top of the page.

We may change our plans at any time, so this is not written in stone, but here’s an idea of how we are prioritizing the features you’ve requested.

Short term - Version that does not require admin privileges.

Middle term - Graphics manipulation commands, write-your-own commands.

Long term - Mac and/or Linux versions.

Well, I for one am very happy that Opera issues got resolved. I can now use Go command with my tabs!

Thanks a million.

Wow, I’ve been following Jef Raskin’s ideas for years and I was scared they would go on the back burner when he died. It’s fantastic to see his ideas coming to fruition in such a manner. :)

Just hugely disappointed to find out there’s currently no Mac support and that it’s a long way away. Please move Mac development into the medium term! :(

Hi, I’d like to give some feedback and suggestions. How do you prefer to receive it? (If it’s welcome that is…)

Thanks

I Extremely frustrated by the need to constantly type open. I can do many things faster through the windows run menu than I can through enso just because of “Open”.

For example if I want to open up a specific drive. Like the C: Drive. I have to type “Open C:” (after I have setup a command.) Is there any way to just type C:?

I hope I have just overlooked something but if there is indeed no way to change this. Then this pretty much ruins the user experience for me.

Guys, you ROCK! It’s been only 1.5 day and I’m addicted to the software.

Great move on the price thing too, I’m most likely going to buy it.

I’m also gonna do an informal review of the product in my blog in the coming days so watch out.

Keep up the amazing workd you’re doing!

I’m evaluating Enso and looks great so far (had been looking for something like this since I read The Humane Interface). But the Caps Lock key does not work for me, I would prefer a key for my thumb.

I’ve seen that in this new version it is possible “to change Enso’s entry key” but I have not been able to find out how. Can you give me some directions?

Wow, okay, with the ability to configure your entry key, make it sticky AND a price drop, I can honestly say that I will be buying this on the next release.

Great example of reacting to public feedback.

Bravo!

Jorge: Changing Enso’s entry key is a feature in the next update ( very soon ). It’s not in the current release.

JC: We’d love to hear your feedback and suggestions. You can enter them in the form at http://www.humanized.com/contact or email them to me at jono@humanized.com.

Greg: The next update contains a feature which I think will make you much happier.

love the concept. I use QuickSilver on OS/X and this brings the simplicity to the PC.
Enso Words is something that IMO should be part of Windows and always active to add those squiggly lines. As It’s not in Vista then I love this. Would love it even more if it picked up my Word custom dictionary to save me redefining words.
Going forward as you release more products and plans for an “all you can eat” licence… all products, all future updates (or a similar model to reward early adopters…)

I really thank you guys for the great work! I love it and waited for something like this for a long time.

I’m so encouraged by the price drop that both will definitely be my favorite tools, I just can’t wait till it get Vista ready.

Thanks again!

The price reduction is very sensible especially as far as the universal spell checker is concerned. It was just too expensive given that only a few applications don’t include spell checking features.

The new pricing options are allowing me to consider buying both the launcher and spell checker instead of just the launcher.
